Make a list Monday - August 3, 2020

Wow!!!! Here we are in August and I have some big goals.  1 of which is 9 quilts, 1 for each grandchild for Christmas and all but 1 needs to be twin size.

I started looking for patterns to use, then realized there are a few quilts I had started so I am going to work on those.   I try to do favorite colors, but I also know that the grandkids will love anything grandma makes for them.

So, here we go with the list for this week.  Now I know not everything will get done this week, but if I make progress each week then I will be happy.

These are not in any particular order.
1.   Bind the Christmas quilt.

2.  Decide on project for a fall blog help to be held in September.   Pull fabrics for it.

3.  Cut pieces for Kyle's quilt.  Find a green and light blue.

4.   Work on Charming flowers quilt for Sarah.

5.  Cut pieces for Katie's quilt and start sewing.

6.  Cut pieces for Jayde's quilt, especially the butterflies and start doing the applique.  Get a few more colors.

7.  Work on quilting this quilt.

8.  Work on Lizzie's quilt.

9.  Work on James' quilt.
10.  Finish up these dresses

11.  Make my last 2 cushions for the park benches.

12.  Work on this fun Irish Chain quilt

13.  Take this quilt block and use a variety of pinks to make into a quilt.   We will call it a scrappy rail fence as that is what the block reminds me of.

14.  I am also trying to test a couple of patterns for some friends, so I will be working on those.

15.   Work on this quilt for my bed.   Since we did a remodel, I wanted a quilt to match the bedroom walls and this is perfect.  This picture is a bit dark, but the walls are a very light green.

How will I accomplish my list.   By organizing my time.  Riding my bike home from work as fast as I can.

Well that is quite the list.  It will definitely keep me busy.

Monthly Color Challenge August 2020

This months color challenge from patternsbyjen.com is a favorite color of mine and at least 2 granddaughters.   We love pink.   In fact I have been making these bench cushions, using this awesome flamingos fabric I found on clearance at Joanns.

So, now on to the block for this month.

I love this block.   It definitely goes together quite fast.   I was able to do a lot of chain piecing, and then pressing all at once, then put it together and so a final press.

You can get the pattern for free by visiting Jen @patternsbyjen.com

This block would work well to make a few throw pillows to go on my benches and swing.

I can imagine a quilt made out of several of these blocks and I can picture how I might want to quilt it.      In fact, I am going to play with some ideas and see what I can come up with on this, because if it works right, it can be 1 of my 9 for grandkids for Christmas.     That will be my goal for this month is to at least start working on it.   Question is should I do all the same fabrics or should I go scrappy pinks?

I can't wait to see your blocks, so please make sure to link up with Jen at the end of the month.   I will definitely be back later in the month to share the progress I have made on the quilt.  So I ask you to please answer the question above to give me some ideas.

Christmas in July - Then and Now- blog hop

Wow.  Here we are, less than 5 months until Christmas.  And I have a lofty goal of 9 quilts, 1 for each grandchild by Christmas.  I keep saying I won't be sewing on Christmas Eve every year and guess what?  I still am.   I don't have any of their quilts done.  I guess I better get started.

This blog hop is being hosted by Carol @ justletmequilt.blogspot.com.   I have loved looking through the ideas.   So many fun things to do.

Carol made this hop easy by saying we could post things we made in the past or now. So I want to share a variety of throw pillows I have made.

I love these snowmen

Pillow back

And I want to share a quilt I just finished quilting.  I still need to bind it, and I will hopefully get it done this weekend.   This quilt was made from a free pattern, which unfortunately is no longer available called Cookie Jar treats.  It was designed to match a fabric line.

I love the texture on the back.

I really wish my quilting would have shown up better.  On the snowball blocks I did holly leaves and my red corner squares are poinsettias, both designs I learned from @ lorikennedyquilts.com.   in my nine patches I did wishbone and I tried some dot to dot quilting which I learned from Angela Walters @ quiltingismytherapy.com.   thread used is glide by @ habanddash.com which is my favorite.

Thank you for joining me today.   I love to read your comments.

Heart pincushion - pincushion parade blog hop - day 28

Hi!! And welcome to day 28 of the pincushion parade blog hop hosted by Crystal @ www.daybrookdesigns.com.  This has been a fun blog hop and it has been neat seeing so many fun pincushion designs.

Today I am sharing another quick and easy pincushion with you.   It is a heart shape pincushion.   A fun gift to gift and tell someone you love them, just because.

Supplies needed:

2 pieces of fabric.  Size depends on how big tour heart is.
A heart template.  You can use a cookie cutter, a pattern online, or draw your own (you know, like we did in school?).

Stuffing

Basic sewing supplies

Start bygetting your template ready.  I drew mine by hand.  I folded a piece of paper in half and just drew half a heart.

Then cut it out.

After I cut it out, I opened it up and it looked like a heart.

Press your fabric.    Place your heart template on the fabric, pin and cut.

With right sides together, stitch around the heart, making sure to leave a small opening to turn right sides out and stuff.

I like to clip around mine, just to the seam line to get it to turn nicer.

Press and stuff.

Stitch the opening closed.  You now have another fun pincushion.   Be sure to tag me at www.instagram.com/kathyskwiltsandmore.  And Crystal @ www.instagram.com/daybrookdesigns.  Use the tags #pincushion parade #pincushionparadebloghop

Thank you for joining us this month.  2 more days of pincushions.

I will be back soon with some fun quilts to share.  Just not sure when.  We just finished a remodel on Friday (about 6 weeks) and I am now spending my time putting things back together.
