Monthly color challenge October 2020






 Hi and welcome to October.  Man, where has the year gone?




That means it is time for a new monthly color challenge, hosted by Jen at https://patternsbyjen.blogspot.com




This month's block is done in Olive Green.  The inspiration for this block comes from the Ruby crowned Kinglet bird which is found throughout North America. This bird is an Olive green and has white on the feathers.  The male has a ruby crown on top. 




A tip I have is when doing the squares for the flying geese, rather than mark a diagonal line, I just fold into a triangle and press.  Just a bit of a shortcut. 





Want another tip?   Chain piece everything that you can at the same time.  Read through the directions and see what steps you can do through chain piecing.  I love to chain piece.   It is a real time saver.

Its a garden party row along

 Hi and welcome to the Garden Party Row Along.    This blog hop is hosted by Marian at www.seamstobesew.com.

My pattern includes English paper piecing and applique.  






  As I was designing this pattern, I had lots of ideas but i could not think of how to put them into a design.  I am not a pattern designer like the others, but it is something I want to learn.   


I have revised my idea a few times, even right up to the end.     There are a few other rows I would like to add, as well as so the variations of my row that I will include here.

Hello fall bloghop



 Welcome to the 2nd day of the blog hop.  Carla @ https://createinthesticks.blogspot.com/?m=1  A couple of my favorite things about fall is the weather starts cooling down.  I do not love the cold of winter, but I do enjoy cooler temperatures in the fall.   I also love watching the leaves change colors. 

For today's project I have a couple of fun things to share. 


Of course with fall is the start of football season.  Both professional and college.   So, I made 2 pillows, 1 for my hubby and 1 for my son.   Both like BYU as 1 of their college teams.   My son loves the Indianapolis Colts, as well as a few others.  Me.  I am not big into football.   I will sometimes watch. 





This is another project I have done.   I made these placemats for my daughter. 




 These are very easy to make and I am thinking they will make some great gifts for Christmas.  May have to do some seasonal ones for my married children. 



I am currently working on this table topper.  It may be for 1 of my daughters or myself.




  My friend Bea www.beaquilter.com designed this pattern.

The Christmas Quilt






 This was a fun quilt to do.   My friend had made this quilt and I fell in love with it.   It was a free pattern from  Wilmington Prints for a fabric line called "Cookie Jar Treats".   Unfortunately the pattern is no longer available.

This quilt is a table cover, of course you can put it on a sofa if you prefer. 



To quilt this quilt I used glide thread 40 weight in white  by habanddash.com.   my friend Judi at www.greenfairyquilts.com has put together a collection of great neutrals of glide thread. 

I free motion quilted this quilt.  I did feathers in the borders. 



I tried to do poinsettias in the red corners.   They are not perfect, but they worked.

 In the snowball blocks just did holly leaves.  I learned to do the holly leaves from www.lorikennedyquilts.com





And on the 9 patches I did wishbone and diamonds.  The diamonds were done using a technique called dot to dot quilting.  Both of these I learned from Angela Walters @www.quiltingismytherapy.com.

To do the binding I did a double fold binding.   I cut my binding strips at 2 1/4" wide, the folded it in half and stitched it to the front of the quilt.  Then I fold it to the back and stitch it by hand.   The binding wad a great project to do while we were on a road trip. (I have a habit of falling asleep if I don't have something to keep my hands busy.)
