Stitch it and Gift It

I am excited to share a couple of fun items on my blog today for the Stitch it and Gift it blog hop, hosted by Carla at www.createinthesticks.blogspot.com.

There are times you need some quick gifts and I have 2 tutorials for you.

The first one is for an envelope style throw pillow.   The best thing about a gift like this is you can give 1 pillow form and then make different covers for other gifts, such as birthday, mothers day, fathers day, etc.

So here is the tutorial for a 12" pillow cover.
Materials needed:

1 12x12 fabric square
1 rectangle 16x12
Thread
Rotary cutter
Cutting mat
12" pillow form

The instuctions:

Cut your rectangle so it is 8 x12. Hem one of the 12 inch edges on each piece. Just a narrow hem. This is your backing for the pillow.

Now put these 2 pieces right sides together with the 12 inch square. You will have your back pieces overlapping by 4 inches in the center.

Pin and stitch, using a 1/4" seam allowance all the way around.

Turn the pillow right side out.

Stuff the pillow form inside. You will have a tight fit, but that is okay.

The 2nd gift I like to make when needed is hot pads.

We can always use those.  The tutorial for this is here https://kathyskwiltsandmore.blogspot.com/2016/03/basic-hot-pad-tutorial-today-i-want-to.html

These are two great gifts that are fun to give.

Hey, how about a give away?   I like to share with others.  So how about we do 2 giveaways.   Tell me which gift you would prefer and what colors you like.  I will give away 1 pillow cover, you provide the pillow form and 1 set of hot pads.  Sound fun?   Great.  Make sure when you leave a comment that you leave your email so I can contact you.   I will leave this open until Sunday, November 17th at 11:55 pm Mountain time.  U.S. only please.

  1. What a great idea to make many envelopes for one pillow!! I would never have storage for pillows if I decorated with them for every season, but an envelope for a pillow that gets changed, that I could do!! I love pot holders and never have enough of them!!! I would choose the pot holders in teal if I were to win!! This blog hop has been so much fun with so many different ideas from everyone!!

  3. Great ideas for gifts. Envelope pillow covers are the only way that I make pillows. So much easier than any other method I've ever tried. The potholders are what I'd choose for a gift - I'm using 22 yr old ones, time for something new....lol. Thanks for the giveaway.

  4. I've started making the envelope pillow covers to save from washing the pillows them selves and to have seasonal covers. I love the idea! And I would chose the pillow cover, so cute!

  7. Love the cushion covers and they are so great. I make them for the cushions in our hallway and change them with the sessions. Hot Pads are always needed and I don't think you can ever have too many. Thanks for sharing. Hugs, Susie xx

  10. Great gift ideas and pillows that are interchangeable are the best! Have you ever tried adding a piece of heavy duty towel fabric to your hot pads? I bought a terrycloth potholder that were from Weber grill years ago and they are the best. Super thick. I'm thinking about trying to cut up some old bath towels and see how they work inside a pretty pot holder

  24. I love pillow covers, then you just need to change the room a bit by changing your pillow covers. And who doesn't need more potholders? I know a lot of us keep them beyond the time we should! Thank you for reminding us of these easy gifts to make that everyone needs. Thank you also for having giveaways, that is kind of you. I choose the color red.
