Today is my day to share, and unfortunately my project is not finished, but I will share what the plan is. I am glad the Carla over at www.createinthesticks.com is hosting this and let me join in.
Life sometimes gets in the way. 2 weeks ago on Sunday, I was heading out the door, and smelled something awful. Really awful. I headed downstairs and saw a huge mess. A stinky one. Oh no, not sewage!!! Yep. So, through some texts made to my children, and our church group, we got people to come help gut the basement. Including my sewing room. Time was of the essence. So, everything in my sewing room, went in garbage bags and to my carport.

On top of this, I was pulling in huge amounts of overtime. Because it was a city problem, we have now filed a claim to get our basement what it was before. I really need my sewing room back, and i dont want to put things in there, just to take it out when we can get the work done. So, i do a lot of handpiecing.
Getting to the organization of my fabrics would have to wait. I finally got a chance last night. And I can't find parts of the parts needed for my project, so I will explain it.
I am making these pumpkin blocks, using the Pumpkins pattern
from www.cluckclucksew.com. This pattern is fat quarter friendly. Unfortunately, I don't have names for my fabrics I am using, they were just in my stash.
I am not using all the blocks, just a couple. In between my pumpkins, I have some star blocks in autumn fabrics to go between them and I just might throw in some maple leaf blocks. Hmmm. This is sounding like I may need to make 2 runners. I will use 3 pumpkin blocks and they will be vertical so as to make a table runner.
The goal is to have this ready for Thanksgiving . I can picture this in my head, and I can't wait to see it done. I will share it as soon as it is ready.

Oh, no, Kathy, I was hoping it was all fixed now, but if you are dealing with government, it will take a while! I guess the good side of that is they will pay. Sigh. I hope it doesn't take too long for you. The tempting pieces you've shown and described really want to be made so I can see them. LOL Best of luck and best wishes.

DeleteThank you. The city had a meeting on the 1st. They have a month to decide. I hope they pay for it. If not, I am back to square one. We don't want to go in debt for it. I will get this project done as soon as possible. Once I find my other pieces, they will be lunch time sewing at work. Just send prayers or good thoughts my way that this will work out.

ReplyDeleteOh..dear! I am so sorry for basement disaster! We had a similar issue with water last year. Ten thousand dollars later we now have a dry basement. I like your choices for pumpkin colors. Your project will finish up nicely!

ReplyDeleteJust wanted to extend my sympathy on the loss of your sewing room and whatever else was damaged or lost. I can't imagine how devastated you and your family must be. I hope they do a bang up job in restoring everything in the basement.

ReplyDeleteIt's amazing what happens when life gets in the way of our "normal" life. I'm thrilled that you got anything completed toward your pumpkin goal. You are blessed to have people come to your aid and get some things salvaged to the upstairs and carport. On Aug 28 and 2 AM, my son who lives in 2 hours away in Arkansas (I live in a bedroom community of Tulsa, OK) called too tell me that he would be at my home sometime and he didn't know when. His father was in a hospital in Tulsa with a possible stroke. I asked if he wanted me to meet him at the hospital and he said NO. So at 6 AM, Eric, my son, called to ask me to open the garage door to let him in the house. While Eric was en route, his dad had a seizure in the ER. The hospital finally was ready to admit him and when the staff moved his dad James to a hospital bed, James screamed with pain. So, now there was an additional issue to determine the source. Finally, the conclusion was that James had not suffered a stroke but a seizure at home which caused him to fall and he broke his hip and messed up the prior hip replacement. The replaced hip socket was almost in his bladder. At first, he was placed on the neuro floor and later moved to the ortho floor. He could not remember anything as it common with those who have suffered seizures. They had to determine the neuro state before they could operate. After more than two weeks, the ortho team had ordered some replacement parts because James is 6'7" and needed large parts that they don't keep in stock. First, the ortho surgeon had to rebuild his pelvis because James had broken the anterior and posterior columns that hold the socket. Therefore, the surgeon had nowhere to attach the socket. Tuesday the anterior pelvis was rebuilt and then two days later, the posterior rebuild and the hip replacement was completed. We have been divorced 20 years and each have been married and divorced from someone else. The first night in the ER, James told Eric that I was welcome to come to the hospital and then kept reiterating that. Finally, Eric told me and the third night I went to the hospital and James immediately brightened. So I was at the hospital most every day and was definitely there for the surgeries. I finally decided that I wanted to ask why he had divorced me and we discussed that and then he immediately asked if I would consider getting back together with him. When he left for rehab, he was placed in a center 2 miles from my house. Due to a mistake, he was released early and is staying with a friend not far from me. So, I have no idea yet what is going to happen, but at least we are now on speaking terms and I have lots of understanding for what I had blamed myself erronously for 20 years. The seizure has definitely changed both of our lives and we don't know exactly how yet for the long term. I pray that the city will cover the cost of your damages. There are folks about 1/2 mile from me that have similar problems and have not had good luck getting the problem resolved AND it is a different place and municipality. I pray you have good results. I love some of the fabric for the pumpkin. I admire your tenacity in the face of adversity. I hope you can keep your chin up, find what you need to keep working on your project, and have a magnificient finish. You have a wonderful start!!!!
